What It Is
Cold coffee, milk, marshmallow topping and chocolate are blended with ice, then finished with whipped cream and graham crumbs. It is part coffee, part dessert, and fully uninterested in restraint.
Origin
This is my american-leaning version, built around the ingredients and method that give the recipe its character.
Fun Fact
Cold temperatures mute sweetness, which is why frozen drinks often taste less sweet than the same mixture at room temperature.
Ingredients
- 4 cups ice
- ½ cup cooled black coffee
- ¼ cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 tbsp marshmallow topping
- 2 tbsp chocolate syrup
Steps
- Blend ice, coffee, milk, vanilla, marshmallow topping and chocolate syrup until smooth.
- Pour into two large glasses.
- Top with whipped cream, graham crumbs and extra chocolate syrup if desired.
Notes
Taste before the final adjustment. A recipe should guide dinner, not bully it. If it needs a little more acid, sweetness, salt or heat, make the change in small steps instead of launching the whole spice rack into orbit.
Substitutions
Use equivalent ingredients where needed for allergies or availability, but keep the main sweet/sour/salty/spicy balance intact. This is cooking, not a hostage negotiation.
Storage
Keep covered and chilled. Fresh-fruit or dairy drinks are best used within 1–2 days; fizzy drinks are happiest served the same day before the bubbles file for retirement.
Freezing
Freeze still fruit bases or concentrates if useful, but add carbonation after thawing. Dairy-heavy drinks are better made fresh.
