Romulan Ale with Cloaking Device

What It Is

Rum, vodka, triple sec, blue curaçao, lemonade and absinthe make an extremely strong Star Trek-inspired blue cocktail.

Origin

Romulan ale is fictional contraband in Star Trek. This very blue fan version uses ordinary Earth spirits and absolutely no diplomatic immunity.

Fun Fact

Aroma changes how strongly we perceive flavour, which is why herbs, citrus peel and warm spices can make a simple recipe taste far more complicated than the effort involved.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup triple sec
  • 1 cup clear rum
  • ½ cup vodka
  • 2 cups blue curaçao
  • Lemonade, to taste
  • 1 cup absinthe

Steps

  1. Combine the spirits and lemonade in a sealed bottle or pitcher.
  2. Chill until very cold.
  3. Serve in small portions. The 'cloaking device' is the joke; drinking this as though it were lemonade is not.

Notes

This is one of the strongest drinks in the collection. Small servings are not cowardice; they are evidence that somebody in the room passed mathematics.

A genuinely respectable nutrition profile. No red flags here — go ahead and feel a little smug about it.

Substitutions

Use equivalent ingredients where needed for allergies or availability, but keep the main sweet/sour/salty/spicy balance intact. This is cooking, not a hostage negotiation.

Storage

Keep covered and chilled. Fresh-fruit or dairy drinks are best used within 1–2 days; fizzy drinks are happiest served the same day before the bubbles file for retirement.

Freezing

Freeze still fruit bases or concentrates if useful, but add carbonation after thawing. Dairy-heavy drinks are better made fresh.
