What It Is
Several rums, raspberry liqueur, blue curaçao and fruit punch make a large-format Star Trek-inspired cocktail. The colour says warp plasma; the ingredient list says make responsible decisions.
Origin
A Star Trek-inspired fan cocktail built to look like something Chief Engineer La Forge would prefer stayed inside the ship.
Fun Fact
Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide at about −78.5°C. Direct contact can cause severe cold burns and swallowing a piece is dangerous.
Ingredients
- 4½ oz white rum
- 3 oz lemon rum
- 1½ oz dark rum
- ½ oz spiced rum
- ½ oz raspberry liqueur
- ¾ oz overproof rum
- ½ oz blue curaçao
- 30 oz fruit punch
Steps
- Combine the rums, liqueurs and fruit punch in a punch bowl over regular ice.
- Stir and serve in small portions.
- For theatrical fog, do not place dry ice in a drinking glass. If used in a serving vessel, it must remain physically separated from drinkers and fully sublimate before any liquid containing it is consumed.
Notes
The old version treated dry ice like garnish. Absolutely not. Space may be the final frontier; emergency gastroenterology does not need to be.
Substitutions
Use equivalent ingredients where needed for allergies or availability, but keep the main sweet/sour/salty/spicy balance intact. This is cooking, not a hostage negotiation.
Storage
Keep covered and chilled. Fresh-fruit or dairy drinks are best used within 1–2 days; fizzy drinks are happiest served the same day before the bubbles file for retirement.
Freezing
Freeze still fruit bases or concentrates if useful, but add carbonation after thawing. Dairy-heavy drinks are better made fresh.
